Newsletter #67-2021 Petro V. Yasniy, Eulogy The university and the ESIS communities suffered a great loss. On November 13, 2021, the University Rector, Ph. D of Engineering Sciences, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honored master of science and engineering of Ukraine, co-chairman of ESIS TC13 (Education and Training), Yasniy Petro Volodymyrovych has passed away. Petro Volodymyrovychy’s life was entirely devoted to science and his native university. He was an example of constant development and scientific growth. Due to his own experience the institution of higher education grew from Ternopil State Ivan Puluj Technical University into Ternopil Ivan Pyluj National Technical University. Thanks to his ambitions, education and professionalism, he was able to reach professional and scientific success. Petro Volodymyrovych Yasniy was an active member of the ESIS community, being co-chairman of the ESIS Technical Committee 13 (Education and Training). Petro Volodymyrovych Yasniy was born on August 12, 1952 in the village of Kutyshche, Brody district, Lviv region. In 1973 he graduated from the Ternopil branch of the Lviv Polytechnic Institute on specialty "Technology of mechanical engineering, metal-cutting machines and tools" with honors. In 1973-1974 pp. he was an engineer-technologist and senior engineertechnologist of Uzhhorod Machine-Building Plant. After serving in the army since 1975 he worked as engineer, junior researcher and senior researcher of the research sector of the Ternopil branch of the Lviv Polytechnic Institute. In 1977-1980 he studied as the post-graduate student of the Institute of Strength Problems of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Kyiv. After graduating from post- graduate course in 1980 he worked at this institute as a junior researcher, and since 1983 as a senior researcher. From 1992 he worked at the Ternopil Instrument-Making Institute (now - Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University), starting from the Head of Materials Science Department, Vice-Rector for Research (1993-2007 pp.) to the Rector of Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University (from 2007 p.). He defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate (1980) and Doctor of Engineering Sciences (1990) in "Mechanics of Deformable Solids". He was awarded the title of senior researcher (1985) and professor (1996). He has published more than 300 scientific papers, including 6 monographs and 18 patents for inventions. He has published 4 scientificmethodical manuals, including one with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. SCOPUS has published more than 100 of his scientific papers. He prepared 15 Candidates and 1 Doctor of sciences, he was the scientific supervisor of four post-graduate students. In 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2019 he took scientific internship at IFMA and the Institute Pascal of Clermont Ferrand and Sigma Clermont (France). Scientific works of P.V. Yasniy, who made a significant contribution to the development of scientific principles for diagnosing the strength and durability of materials and structural elements, are characterized by relevance, originality of approaches, novelty, argumentation of the results and their implementation in applied development and engineering practice in leading metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine.
